2016

2016: Nineteenth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

1993-2016: Monthly survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two-county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2016: Three-month follow-up surveys of alumni from CSUSB's College of Business and Public Administration in order to evaluate the college's strengths and weaknesses and allow the college to better serve its current and future students.

2016: Survey of MPA graduates to determine current job status, evaluation of the MPA curriculum, and skill gaps which exist in their current job.  Equally important was a survey of employers who hire MPA graduates to determine their perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of CSUSB's MPA program and skill gaps of employees entering the workforce.

2016: Materials Science feasibility study to help determine if there is sufficient student interest to warrant creation of a potential new Master's program in Materials Science.  As part of the study, an employer survey was conducted to determine industry needs while at the same time providing an opportunity to "pre-market" the program to their employees who are potential students in the program.

2016: Evaluation of CSUSB's Student Services Center.  The purpose of the survey is to elicit information from students regarding awareness of the center, reasons for visiting (or not visiting) the center, level of satisfaction with support services and programs, and overall feelings about the CBPA.

2015

2015: Community needs assessment survey for the City of Riverside and Seizing Our Destiny.   The purpose of the survey is to elicit residents’ views regarding issues such as: quality of life, fear of crime, business opportunities, cultural needs, shopping, dining, and entertainment needs.

2015: Conducted the Eighteenth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2015: Contracted to conduct a community needs assessment survey for Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) within PVHMC’s service area. The purpose of the survey is to elicit residents’ views regarding issues such as; Health care coverage; Access to health care (including barriers); Utilization of health care services for routine primary/preventative care; and Need for specialty health care.

2014


2014: Contracted to conduct Phase II Economic Impact Study of San Bernardino International Airport.

2014: Contracted to conduct a survey of current College of Business and Public Administration students (both graduate and undergraduate) to determine their views regarding existing support services (including the recently established “one-stop”/advising center) and our curriculum.

2014: Conducted Phase II of an Alumni survey for College of Business and Public Administration to elicit feedback on possible improvements to the curriculum.

2014: Conducted the Seventeenth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.


2014: Conducted a Neighborhood walk ability study in two Riverside low income neighborhoods. The purpose of the survey was to elicit residents’ suggestions for improving the walk ability of the area, perceptions of barriers to walking, and evaluation of quality of life.

2013

2013: Conducted a community needs assessment survey for Hemet Police Department within the City of Hemet area. The purpose of the survey was to elicit residents’ views regarding issues such as; crime, fear, and quality of life in Hemet.

2013: Survey of residents in the Hemet/Temecula regions regarding citizens’ car buying behavior and perceptions of Gosch Auto Group dealerships.

1993-2013:  Monthly survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two-county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2013: Employer survey for CSUSB’s College of Business and Public Administration to determine what skill sets are missing in new employees.  The College will use that information to strengthen its programs so as to better prepare its graduates to enter the workforce.

2013: Study of alumni for the CSUSB’s College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA) to gain suggestions for improving CBPA programs and to establish/re-establish a link between CBPA and its alumni which hopefully will result in more active engagement of alumni with the college.   

2013: Community needs assessment survey for the City of Riverside and Seizing Our Destiny.   The purpose of the survey is to elicit residents’ views regarding issues such as: quality of life, fear of crime, business opportunities, cultural needs, shopping, dining, and entertainment needs.

2013: Community needs assessment survey for Morongo Band of Mission Indians to determine tribal members’ preferred recreational facilities and programs.  The needs assessment became part of the tribe’s Parks and Recreation Facility Master Plan geared towards improving the health and well-being of their members.

2012

2012: Conducted a survey of Ft. Irwin Army base to determine military personnel's (both officers and enlisted men/women) preferences for fields of study (either certificate and/or degree programs).

2012: Fifteenth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2012: Community needs assessment survey of residents in Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center ‘s service area.   The purpose of the survey is to elicit residents’ views regarding issues such as; health care coverage; access to health care (including barriers); utilization of health care services for routine primary/preventative care; and need for specialty health care.

2011

2011: Conducted an economic and social impact study for San Bernardino International Airport quantifying the net economic contributions the airport makes to the local community, region and state; and describing the social impact of the airport's commercial and industrial development on residents in the region.

2011: Feasibility housing study for CSUSB Palm Desert Campus and an area developer to evaluate the need for on-campus housing.

2011: Conducted a study on behalf of SmartRiverside, they wanted to know since 2009 has the program been successful in helping low income families by adding a computer to the home.  Has school aged children grades improved, has the computer improved residents staying in touch with the local community and family members.

2011: Fourteenth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County and Riverside County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2011: Presented a “white paper” at the workshop of the Innovation and Policy Analysis Program at CSUSB in collaboration with the US Military at Indian Wells. In addition, we interviewed soldiers who had recently returned from Afghanistan for their views toward information sharing technology.

2011: Conducted a study on behalf of Cal Poly, Pomona, of Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County residents’ views about the economy, crime, terrorism, politics, and quality-of-life issues.

2010

2010: Study (in collaboration with Innovation and Policy Analysis Program at CSUSB and the US Military Academy at West Point) of three target populations: (1) Soldiers who have recently returned from Afghanistan to determine experience with information-sharing technology, (2) Afghani cadets, staff, and faculty at the National Military Academy of Afghanistan to elicit their views toward US and NATO forces presence in Afghanistan and how it has affected the political, economic, and social life of Afghanis; (3) Afghani citizens who live near US/NATO projects (water works, schools, etc.) for their views about how these nation-building efforts are changing their everyday lives.

2009

2009/08: Thirteenth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County and Riverside County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2009: Surveyed apartment and condo dwellers for their travel behavior and opinions regarding transit oriented development (TOD). The survey was conducted on behalf of CSUSB’s Leonard Transportation Center.

2009: Partnered with Innovation Policy Analysis Program (funded by the U.S. Army) on an empirical study of policy-makers and scientists’ perceptions about policy obstacles that prevent information sharing on the battlefield and with respect to Homeland Security.

2009: Surveyed key Transportation Planners in the Inland Empire, to determine how planners help guide and shape decisions relative to public policy in transportation. The survey was conducted on behalf of CSUSB’s Leonard Transportation Center.

2008: Twelfth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino County and Riverside County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2008: Continued to serve as special statistical/methodological consultant to the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences to help them determine the best way of offering courses in bioterrorism research.

2008: Study of the mining industry in San Bernardino County for the San Bernardino Department of Economic Development.

2008: Conducted a study on behalf of Cal Poly, Pomona, of Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County residents’ views about the economy, crime, terrorism, politics, and quality-of-life issues.

2008: Developed a research design in collaboration with the Innovation Policy Analysis Program (funded by the U.S. Army) to develop the methodology to be used in a series of future studies of policy obstacles that prevent information sharing on the battlefield and with respect to Homeland Security.

2007: Statewide survey of landscape water usage for the California Urban Water Conservation Council for the purpose of evaluating the effectiveness of prior marketing efforts at changing conservation behavior, and for developing new marketing strategies.

2007: Surveyed Los Angeles County and San Bernardino County residents on behalf of Cal Poly Pomona. The survey contained questions on a variety of issues regarding the economy, crime, terrorism, politics, and quality-of-life issues.

2007: On retainer with Inland Congregations United for Change (ICUC) for ongoing consulting regarding development of program evaluation tools and processes.

2007: Eleventh Inland Empire Annual Survey, a yearly omnibus survey of San Bernardino County and Riverside County residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2007: Continued to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2006

2006: Study of families with children (ages 0 – 5) for First 5, San Bernardino, to measure community awareness of First 5’s programs and perceived effectiveness of those programs in improving the health and school readiness of children within the county.

2006: Needs assessment of low or moderate income families in the Inland Empire for United Way.

2006/07: Served as special statistical/methodological consultant to the Annenberg Center for Health Sciences to help them determine the best way of offering courses in bioterrorism research.

2006: Industry analysis of the gaming industry in the Inland Empire for SBVC’s Center for Business Excellence.

2006: Retention study of CSUSB students to determine students’ reasons for leaving the university and to recommend possible ways to improve retention.

2006: Continued to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2006: Tenth Anniversary San Bernardino Annual Survey, a yearly survey of San Bernardino residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens’ views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the county, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2005

2005: Survey for the Computer Science and Physics Department at CSUSB to determine the interest of students on a Computer Engineering program at CSUSB. In addition, a study of potential employers was conducted to determine the interest of internships for students.

2005: Surveyed San Bernardino Fifth Supervisorial District registered voters regarding perceptions concerning public services, quality of life, unmet needs and economic development.

2005: Continued to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2005: Marketing studies for CSUSB’s Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization. Conducted focus groups for ISCA regarding their mosquito trap, and conducted a full marketing study for ISCA’s sandfly project.

2005: Study of CSUSB food services to determine student, faculty, and staff satisfaction with food services and to ascertain optimal franchise mix for new food services facilities.

2005: Study of affordable housing for CSUSB and an area developer to determine how housing costs have affected CSUSB faculty/staff recruitment efforts and to provide information regarding housing preferences.

2005: Conducted an evaluation of CSUSB’s Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization (OTTC) to measure the extent to which OTTC was “adding value” to regional efforts to transfer technology from area companies to the military and from the military to the marketplace. The leadership change at OTTC resulted in shifting priorities, and the evaluation was cancelled halfway through the project.

2004

2004: Conducted a marketing study for the San Bernardino Valley College Financial Aid Office for the purpose of increasing the awareness and participation of unserved and under served students in the SBVC’s financial aid program.

2004: Conducted, in partnership with University of California, Berkeley, a follow-up survey with caregivers who provide care to a friend or family member over the age of 50. This survey assessed changes in caregivers’ use of (and need for) support services, prevalence and characteristics of family care-giving, and factors which contribute to caregiver stress.

2004: 2.5 year evaluation of the 40 demonstration projects related to the California Community and Faith-Based Initiative(s) (CFBI) funded by the State. This project was conducted by IAR, the California Economic Development Department, U.C. Riverside, U.C. Davis, and CSU Humboldt.

2004: Three-year evaluation of an on-line course for newly hired adjunct faculty at nine California Community Colleges. Coordinating college: Riverside Community College.

2004: Conducted the ninth Inland Empire Annual Survey, a survey of San Bernardino residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens' views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the County, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2004: Continued to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2003

2003: Telephone survey for Mt. Baldy United Way to ascertain the values, opinions, and expectations of the residents regarding a variety of community issues.

2003: Telephone survey of residents of Western Riverside County for Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG). Data from this survey helped guide a re-evaluation of outreach programs for the Used Motor Oil and Filter Recycling Program.

2003: Conducted marketing studies for technology companies funded through CSUSB’s OTTC (Office of Technology Transfer and Commercialization) program.

2003: Provided consulting services to CCLM in their efforts to formulate and implement evaluation tools that will annually assess the progress of the Mission’s capacity building efforts, the effectiveness of Mission services and programmatic and physical expansion.

2002: Conducted survey research to gather information for the re-accreditation process of CSUSB's Department of Public Administration.

2002: Surveyed Town of Yucca Valley citizens concerning their quality of life, satisfaction with public services, economic development, assessment of desires for new and/or expanded services, traffic circulation and safety, and communication activities.

2002: Conducted a six-month follow-up survey of Rialto Unified School District high school graduates of the class of 2001 to determine their current employment and education status.

2002: Study of emergency room visitors to San Antonio Community Hospital and Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center to assess reasons for use of emergency services and to develop strategies to reduce emergency room usage.

2002: Conducted, in partnership with University of California, Berkeley, a statewide survey with caregivers who provide care to a friend or family member over the age of 50. This survey assessed their use of (and need for) support services, prevalence and characteristics of family care-giving, and factors which contribute to caregiver stress.

2002: Participated in the California Faith-Related Employment Research Consortium (FRERC), which consists of a partnership between IAR, the California Economic Development Department, U.C. Riverside, U.C. Davis, and Humboldt State, to conduct an evaluation of the 40 demonstration projects related to the California Community and Faith-Based Initiative(s) (CFBI) currently funded by the State.

2002: Collaborated with faculty at U.C. Riverside to conduct a survey of residents of Riverside County to determine their attitudes and opinions on a variety of issues related to U.S. immigration policy, immigration, and it effects on Southern California.

2002: Conducted (in partnership with UCR) the sixth Inland Empire Annual Survey of San Bernardino residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens' views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the County, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2002 / 2001

2002/01: Needs assessment for Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties to determine reproductive health needs of adolescents in San Bernardino, Colton and Fontana. Results of this study assisted Planned Parenthood developing programs and services tailored to meet the needs of adolescents in these three cities.

2001

2001: Continue to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2001: Evaluation of an on-line course for newly hired adjunct faculty at nine California Community Colleges.

2001: Contracted with the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to perform an evaluation of the "Right From The Start" project. This program consists of a consortium of health care service providers, and is designed to expand existing programs, launch new services, and collaborate to benefit the overall health and well-being of at-risk children and their families within the consortium's service area.

2001: Needs assessment study for the Physics and Mathematics departments at CSUSB to determine interest in two newly proposed programs (Engineering Physics and Applied Math) among high school and community college science/math students in CSUSB’s service area.

2001: Needs assessment study in partnership with Cal State University Fullerton for the Health Care Association of Southern California to determine the health care needs of residents in Orange County.

2001: Conducted (in partnership with UCR) the fifth annual omnibus survey (Inland Empire Annual Survey) of San Bernardino and Riverside residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens' views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the County, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2000 / 2002 (Two Year Contract)

2000-02: Evaluation of the LEA Medi-Cal Technical Assistance Project to determine the extent to which California School Districts currently bill under the Medi-Cal billing option, and to evaluate the benefit of the LEA Technical Assistance Project in increasing Medi-Cal billing among districts statewide.

2000

2000: Continue to conduct a survey and analysis of city budgets to provide input to local government officials on the budgeting process in major cities in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

2000: Presidential poll for The Press-Enterprise.

2000: Compliance review of the California Works School-To-Career program, which encompasses six Northern California Counties, including Lake, Glenn, Yuba, Sutter, Colusa, and Yolo.

2000: Continue to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

2000: Survey for the Children’s Center on the CSUSB campus to determine their current and future child care needs for a proposed new facility.

2000: Program evaluation of the San Bernardino Child Advocacy Program in order to review the overall functions and directions of the agency; identify, recruit, and retain CASA/GAL volunteers; and evaluate the development, benefits and effectiveness of the Healthy Lifestyles Module.

2000: Educational Needs Assessment study among local employers to determine ways in which local universities can better prepare graduates for the workforce and to obtain recommendations for continuous training.

2000: Conducted a study for Inland Valley Development Agency to determine the interest and need among local businesses in using the San Bernardino International Airport.

2000: Literature review study for the City of San Bernardino and the City of San Bernardino Fire Department to gather information regarding reasons for high volumes of emergency calls per capita and methods by which the number of emergency calls can be reduced.

2000: Exploratory study for San Bernardino Valley College to determine immediate district information needs and to identify the problems in accessing the needed information.

2000: Organized the 14th annual Economic Forecast Breakfast at CSUSB.

2000: Conducted (in partnership with UCR) the fourth annual omnibus survey of San Bernardino and Riverside residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens' views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the County, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

2000: Survey of City of San Bernardino citizens concerning their evaluation and priority ranking of city services.

1999

1999: Business climate survey for the City of San Bernardino to determine the key concerns businesspeople have about doing business in San Bernardino.

1999: Continued to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

1999: Negotiated and managed a study (under the auspices of CORE21) to link Inland Empire businesses needing high-technology with CORE21-participating universities and the Far West Region, National Laboratory Consortium.

1999: Awarded a CSU Sacramento faculty fellowship to study "The Plight of the Aging Workforce."

1999: Community needs assessment for a consortium of Inland Empire universities and colleges, including California State University San Bernardino and San Bernardino Valley College.

1999: Marketing focus groups for the Riverside Department of Public Social Services for the purpose of identifying techniques for persuading the CalWORKs population to participate in available education and training opportunities.

1999: Organized the 13th annual Economic Forecast Breakfast at CSUSB.

1998: Survey of City of San Bernardino citizens concerning their evaluation and priority ranking of city services in light of budgetary constraints.

1998: Designed and conducted (with the Department of Health Sciences) the Community Needs and Assets Project, a project to assist the United Way and nonprofit private hospitals of the Inland Empire meet SB 697 and increase the effectiveness of health and human services planning in the Inland Empire.

1998: Employee attitude survey for JSPI to evaluate organizational culture and well-being. Made policy recommendations for solving some of the challenges present in the context/environment of organizational change.

1998: Agreed to serve as volunteers on the Mayor’s Strategic Planning Taskforce/ Committee.

1998: Study for Molina Medical Centers to determine self-reports regarding members’ health-related behaviors, including exercise habits, eating habits, "at-risk" behaviors, and satisfaction with Molina’s health care services.

1998: Study for Ontario Mills Mall to determine current shoppers’ characteristics, shopping patterns, and satisfaction with the mall. In addition, the study determined non-shopper’s reasons for shopping elsewhere.

1998: Organized the 12th annual Economic Forecast Breakfast at CSUSB.

1997

1997: Continued to conduct the survey of Inland Empire businesses, resulting in the two county Inland Empire Report on Business, a monthly economic forecast.

1997: Survey of visitors to El Mirage Recreation Area for the Bureau of Land Management.

1997: Conducted a survey and analysis of city budgets to provide input to local government officials on the budgeting process in major cities in San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

1997: Data analysis for an Inland Empire Business Journal readership survey.

1997: Organized the 11th annual Economic Forecast Breakfast at CSUSB.

1997: Conducted (in partnership with UCR) the second annual omnibus survey of San Bernardino and Riverside residents for the purpose of eliciting citizens' views and opinions about the current state of affairs within the County, its major cities and regions, and about the quality of their lives.

1997: Awarded an Institute position on CORE21's Board of Directors. The Institute, in partnership with UCR’s Biotech Center, formed the initial working group which started CORE21, an organization created for the purpose of promoting and supporting high tech economic development within the Inland Empire. IAR’s applied research activities in tandem with the participating universities’ schools of science and business are being used as an attractive/inducement (a la Silicon Valley) to market the area to high tech firms (existing and startup).

1997: Focus group for the The Sun newspaper for the purpose of delineating market segments.

1997: Served on a Performance Indicators committee which prepared a report as part of a demonstration project sponsored by the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). The Committee, chaired by SANBAG President John Mikels, included elected officials, a city manager, planning and public works officials, and private sector representatives who are active participants in SANBAG. As stated in the report’s Introduction and Overview, "A special outreach effort was made to secure representation from the Institute of Applied Research at California State University, San Bernardino, the Inland Empire Economic Partnership (IEEP), and Caltrans."
